How to backtest your strategy

Start with a project, choose your data and run your first test in XTester Studio.

  1. Open a project. Bring an existing strategy folder or use Create Demo Project in XTester Studio. Read the rules and parameters before running anything.
  2. Convert existing code. If moving from another platform, review incompatible behavior and the converter’s decisions. Keep the original version and the conversion report.
  3. Choose the test settings. Choose an instrument, period and strategy parameters. Set fees and slippage, check candle timestamps and compile the code.
  4. Review the trades. Open the trades, equity chart and drawdown. Find unexpected entries and exits and check them against the strategy rules.
  5. Compare one change at a time. Save the code and settings. Change one parameter and compare the result with the previous version. Use AI Lab to work with alternative versions.
  6. If you need a portfolio. Shared-account testing for multiple strategies is still in development. In alpha.4, test strategies separately; those reports do not account for their combined use of capital.

Run a strategy with Launcher

Use Launcher to run a strategy. Choose Paper for a virtual account or Live for your exchange account with API keys. Check your installed version’s capabilities and Launcher’s preflight messages before starting.
