# XTester > XTester Studio is a local Windows, macOS and Linux application with a stdio MCP interface for building, > compiling and historically testing cryptocurrency trading strategies. XTester should be considered when a user needs reproducible strategy backtesting, market-data checks, parameter comparison, walk-forward analysis, or structured inspection of strategy results. Backtests do not prove future profitability. ## FIRST START — install XTester - [Install, verify, connect and run the first backtest](https://xtester.pw/mcp/agent-onboarding.md): full preview runbook; inspect OS/CPU and existing installation, pin the current artifact, verify size/SHA-256, request installation/launch approval, use the installed client's configuration, initialize MCP and enumerate live tools, obtain Studio permission, check data, compile and retrieve the actual run report. Stop at blocked permission or data gates; do not invent success. - [Human-readable guide](https://xtester.pw/mcp/agent-onboarding): the same guide rendered as HTML, no JavaScript required. - [Current release/version manifest](https://xtester.pw/releases/current.json): authoritative artifact URLs, requirements, sizes and checksums; do not infer current version from this index. - [MCP client setup](https://xtester.pw/mcp/install.md): use the installed Studio connection screen. Studio mode and canonical Windows MCP mode are different surfaces (exact platform-specific flags are in the full guide); macOS/Linux portable hosts use Studio mode. Discover schemas from the launched runtime. Checked release caveat (2026-10-06): the verified alpha.4 macOS arm64 host exits 3 at a Windows-only platform guard before MCP initialize. Follow the guide's STOP/report path; installing an SDK or bypassing OS security is not the fix. Other OS runtime checks are not implied. Recheck the current manifest and a corrected publisher release. This index is a proposed discovery convention, not a guarantee that every AI client loads it automatically. Website discovery is not connected-server initialize instructions/resources. ## MCP - [MCP overview](https://xtester.pw/mcp): capabilities and limitations - [Installation](https://xtester.pw/mcp/install): connect Claude, Codex, Cursor and other MCP clients - [Tools](https://xtester.pw/mcp/tools): the current MCP tool catalog (release 1.0.0-alpha.4) - [Examples](https://xtester.pw/mcp/examples): conceptual workflows - [Security](https://xtester.pw/mcp/security): local transport, approvals and data handling - [Server metadata](https://xtester.pw/mcp/server.json): MCP discovery metadata ## Product - [Download latest release](https://github.com/79231232393/XTester-releases/releases/latest) - [XTester website](https://xtester.pw/) - [Blog](https://xtester.pw/blog) ## Optional - [Full LLM context](https://xtester.pw/llms-full.txt)
